Mexico - Daily Doings

Everyday the twins did have to sit down and do some homework.
But for the most part they were out having fun.
With all of the family!
Meals were at times had in street stalls.
Sometimes at their abuela Mester's house, sopa de fideo.

One morning the twins went up the steps to the church near the house they were staying.
It's always a nice view of the city from up there.
Ada and Navi did enjoy all the pets found in Mexico.
Little dogs are a popular companion just like in the US.
Somehow they always find themselves in the jardín. Well, it's the in between spot of their great grandmothers' houses. They would walk a lot form one house to the other.
In the market they did pick up some toys to play with on their own.
This kept them well occupied for several afternoons.
One special meal was had in the Ma'Maria's kitchen, sandwiches. Everyone needed a little break from the delicious food they were eating every night.

Mexico - Guanajuato

On Sunday evening the Lopezjoneses, Abue, Mester, TiaIrma, TiaDalila and Kayla headed to the state capital, Guanajuato for a new nights.
Arriving at night they checked in and went out for dinner. Luckily a restaurant right off the city's main jardín was able to seat 9 people for a great meal.

The twins shared a room with Kayla. In the morning they opened a window and found to their surprise one of the many underground main roads ran under their room.
The next morning everyone gathered together for breakfast at the hotel. This was key to this trip. The last time the Medinas went to Guanaujauto Mester was not able to go and ever since she wanted to return and stay in a hotel that had breakfast. DaddyQuique found her a hotel right smack in the middle of all the sights and even found a lofted room with three beds for her to stay with her daughters.
That morning the Lopezjoneses headed out for a walk. And what a walk it was.
The area reminded them a little bit of Venice, Italy. It was all small walk ways, no map could have helped.

But they found their way up and up.
To a spectacular view of the city.
Later they walked even more to the mummy museum.
Naturally preserved mummies from the cemetery up top.
And in the cemetery they found a friend to play with.
After that they walked back to the town center to meet with DaddyQuique's cousin from Chicago who also happened to be in Mexico and just happened to be touring Guanajuato as well. The twins have now started to order on their own and without asking their go to drink is a piñada, basically a piña colada without alcohol.
For the evening the Lopezjoneses and Kayla were on their own for dinner. They found a really nice square, one of many, to stop in and have a drink while the twins played.
The squares are the playground for the local children and these two.
Another breakfast at the hotel, but this time it was time to return to Moroleon.
There was not a convenient direct stop, so they had to stop in on of the other big cities in the state. Thank goodness Kayla was there to keep the twins occupied.
Oh and also there was more gazpacho.

Mexico - Playing Tourist

Sunday morning the Lopejoneses headed to the mercado (market). They passed many many clothes vendors, Moroleon is by the way the textile capital of Mexico.
Somehow you always end up in the jardín with more gazpacho.
Navi liked his spicy!
From the mercado the dads bought the twins marbles and DaddyQuique showed them how to play. This was a good way to pass the time for these two.
One afernoon PapaJason gave the kids a few pesos and told them to go to the albarrotes, which are small local stored selling a variety of things and especially snacks, on their own. They loved it. Form then on they went to the abarrotes every day. They even would go out on their own in the morning to buy pan dulce for breakfast. They did however learn that it was not okay to buy pan dulce and spend the rest on chips, candy and gum. Change was now required for breakfast purchases.

Mexico - Moroleon

The Lopezjoneses headed to San Jose international airport last week to catch a, money saving, flight to Morelia Mexico.
Five hours later they met Abue and headed out down the street to pick up dinner. The twins were a bit beat from the plane and taxi ride, but were happy to be in Mexico.
To DaddyQuique's surprise and delight both kids got new beds in their room!
The next morning Ada, Abue and DaddyQuique went out to get breakfast. Ada started with a chocolate licuado (breakfast shake), just like her dad used to do when he was her age. Ma'Maria was very happy to see them all.
The rest of breakfast was pan dulce. Som really good pan dulce.
Ada and Navi enjoyed their in the garden.
The that morning they headed to the jardín (the town square/center).
Still as beautiful as ever.
They made their way to Mester's house who was also visiting Mexico, along with TiaIrma, TiaDalila and DaddyQuique's cousin Kayla.
They got to see Mana, their great grandfather's sister.
And they got to play in the old pig stalls.
Back in the jardín they stopped for a gazpacho (cut up fruit salad with powdered chile and a squeeze of lime).
After resting at home for a bit, and doing homework, they headed back to the jardín which was alive with people. It was a week of festivities celebrating the citie's religious icon in the church.
On their way back home they stopped at a street vendor for tacos. With today's exchange rate five people were fed dinner for $5.20!
