On Saturday morning the twins awoke to find that the Three Wise Men had stopped by the Lopezjones household to leave toys and treats on their way to visit baby Jesus.
This is the tradition in Mexico and the daddies are embracing their family's Mexican heritage and celebrating.
It's the third year the twins have left out their shoes for the Wise Men.
Another tradition they are following is the
Rosca De Reyes. Or Kings Cake in English. Hidden inside the sweet bread is a figurine, said to represent baby Jesus. Both Ada and Navi were told to be careful because there could be a 'baby jesus' inside.
Navi checked his piece and concluded there was nothing there.
The poor guy was wrong, he bit down on the 'baby jesus' and was in a bit of pain.
It was a small figurine. Ada spotted a second one sticking out of the bread and she got to keep a 'baby jesus' too. The tradition is that there is 1-2 little figurines and whom ever receives the piece with the figurine inside gets to, depending on tradition, either buy the next
Rosca for next year or in the Lopez tradition host a party with tamales on February 2nd, the day of Epiphany.
Later in the day, after a long morning of cleaning up the kid area in the living room, their friend Aidan came over to have a sleep over. And for dessert after dinner, the
rosca!
By chance, there was a third 'baby jesus' in the
rosca and Ada found it. Lucky Ada and Navi they get to make tamales and host a party - on their birthday!
